The project
A sanctuary and gathering space for a growing congregation, designed so the room feels full at two hundred and still works at five.
Church work is mostly about the room where people gather. Shady Grove needed a sanctuary that would feel warm on an ordinary Sunday and still hold the whole congregation at Easter.
The plan gives the worship space a simple, tall volume with narrow windows and warm interior finishes, and places the fellowship hall directly off the lobby so the two rooms share a single, generous entry.
Design notes
Volume
A tall, simple room that does not depend on technology to feel sacred.
Gathering
Fellowship space directly off the lobby, sharing one entry.
Light
Narrow high windows for even, non-distracting daylight.
